My Favorite Book, My Favorite Anything

This is a cop-out warning. Consider yourself warned.
This is a very hard writing assignment for me: write about your all-time favorite book. How can I possibly choose? I don't even know how to begin.
Part of the problem is my age (easy to blame things on that these days). When I was younger, I could have told you in a heartbeat what my favorite book was, favorite color, and favorite food. I'm talking much younger. Of course, it was also quite likely that weeks, days, maybe even hours later you would get an entirely different answer to the question.
I could possibly tell you which genres I like best … or then again maybe not. In my teens, I loved nothing better than a good sci-fi book: Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke, Niven, Cherryh, McCaffrey. That list could get quite long and when you add in a little fantasy … oh my! I still enjoy sci-fi, but a good book about horses (anatomy, behavior, care, true stories, etc.) can really get me going. I enjoy all sorts of fiction. Some of the authors I currently like a lot are: Dean Koontz, F. Paul Wilson, Lee Child, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Janet Evanovich, and Steve Berry.
I also love non-fiction. "The Brain that Changes Itself" was amazing as was "The Tipping Point." "Emotional Intelligence" was an eye-opener and "The Tao of Equus" brought tears to my eyes. "The Inside of a Dog" which is about how dogs perceive and relate to the human world and the natural world was so much fun to read I couldn't put it down. I could say the same for "The Soul of a Horse" and add that I've read it three times.
There have been books that have changed how I thought about the world. "Stranger in a Strange Land" would be one of them. And others that were just so darn good that they need to be mentioned ("The Cider House Rules" and "The Green Mile").
But one particular all-time favorite? Nope can't do it. I did warn you.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)Totally with you Diane, I'm not even going to attempt to choose... My favorite place to hang out for a couple of hours is Barnes and Noble. The place smells like coffee and books - what more could I want???Hi Jean.
My sister can spend hours at Barnes and Noble too. I'm usually good for at least one. Mostly because I usually have a goal ... a specific topic I'm interested in. When I find what I want, then I just want to be home and sitting in my recliner with it. :) I do love B&N though.
Take care and hugs,
Dianne
a cop out- but well doneHi Jack.
But when you think about, there are SO many good books that I don't really see how anyone could choose just one.
Thanks!
Hugs,
DianneI agree, but the one I chose just hit me harder than any other. Many have hit me hard, but Faulkner is my favorite so I chose the one of his I like the best.I think being able to choose a favorite doesn't mean you do not recognize the worth of all other things. I think it shows a strength of will and an ability to decide that I don't have or find to be difficult. :)
Hello Diana, you have it, a gift from God, but you have it and I love reading your thoughts, anyway I hope your husband realises that he is a lucky guy, maybe? My best wishes to you.Hi Terrence.
Thanks so much! You are so sweet!
Bernd loves me very much and he is happy to be married to me. Of this I have no doubt. His ability to make me feel special and loved is something I cherish. I only hope I do the same for him.
Hugs,
Dianne
